Eat Piedmont: Home Home After our last trip to the Italian region of Piedmont, we realised that there really don't seem to be any decent guides available that focus purely on the area that we love the most: the food and wine producing towns and villages around Alba and Asti. This area is home to the finest white truffles in the world as well as being the source of some of the worlds greatest wines (including Barolo & Barbaresco), the birthplace of Nutella which is made from the areas own renowned hazelnuts and is full of too many other gastronomic delights to list! Most guide books tend to dedicate pages and pages to Turin and the ski slopes of northern Piedmont, and only a handful of pages to what, to us, is the main attraction of the region. Whilst foodie holidays have become all the rage in other parts of Italy and the world for some reason this area has been mostly overlooked and although there is a good turn out of Swiss and German tourists coming down over the Alps to eat truffles and load up on fine wines there is a serious lack of foodies from the UK. So with this blog we hope to offer help to other travellers and gastronauts venturing off to sample the finest foods and wines known to man, as well as restaurant recommendations, directions to towns and places of interest and general advice about visiting the area. About us..... We met working in the wine trade 8 years ago and live in the heart of Devon, in the South West of England. Although we have moved on from the wine shop, we share a love of fine wine, food and especially of Italy! Helen studied Italian at university and speaks the language fluently. After living in Milan and Rome in her early twenties, she has settled back into life in Devon as a publisher but tries to make regular trips back out to Italy. As well as having a love of languages, she is a fabulous cook and talented musician. Olly is a seasoned traveller, having made many trips to India in his early twenties. He didn't think another country could capture his heart in the same way until he visited Italy for the first time in 2006. Since then he has meticulously planned trip after trip back to Piedmont in search of more food, wine, and glorious views over vine-covered hills. Other than his love of travelling, Olly immerses himself in writing & performing music and runs a record label. During the day he manages a reclamation yard and designs bespoke kitchens.
